PEEK BEHIND THE SCENES.

How to Style the High Collar Trend this Autumn

Trends vary from season to season. Sometimes it’s a colour trend that everyone has gone crazy for, and sometimes it’s a silhouette. One of the most prominent trends from the A/W 2017 runways was the high collar trend on pieces ranging from blouses to jumper dresses, from knits to formal wear. It seems this trend, which has been quite popular over the past few seasons, has some serious staying power.

When a trend has this much staying power, I often find myself in a style rut. I tend to style pieces the same way, and after one season of that ‘sameness’, I really find myself uninspired. It’s not that I don’t like the way that I’ve styled the item in the past, it’s more of a feeling that I want to try something new whilst keeping the element of the trend alive. Lately, I’ve found myself really gravitating towards more of a classic style with trendy elements being introduced by means of accessories to update my look and keep it feeling fresh and new.

Whilst the temperatures are not quite cold enough yet to wear multiple layers, the high collar trend is one that is rather wearable in nearly every season and not just limited to the cooler months of the year. I for one, cannot wait to start wearing the autumnal textures and colours – and that includes every single high collared knit I own. My favourite way to style this trend in the “not quite sure if it’s summer or autumn today” ‘s temperatures is to style a sleeveless knit with high-waist denim. I love to add a pop of colour into the look with my accessories, by means of statement earrings or in this case, a statement clutch in this season’s IT hue, power red.

Another way to style the high-collar trend this season is to incorporate it into your workwear. Hugo Boss came out with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL blouse that I would love to have in my wardrobe. If the stripes of this top aren’t really your cup of tea, White House Black Market came out with the trend in a long-sleeved white blouse with incredibly lovely dainty details. I love to style tops like these with a pair of cigarette style trousers, or a pair of culottes. For more of a casual look, you can add a pair of loafers – but if you’d like to dress the look up a bit, add a pair of pointed black stilettoes to complete the outfit.

Because this trend can be slightly on the dramatic side, I like to play with a subtle makeup look. Glowing skin, full brows, and a neutral eye – but to add a bit of glam, rock a red or cinnamon-hued lip. In my opinion, perfection!

How do you like to style the high-collared trend for autumn? Are you as crazy about it as I am? Let me know in the comments! Until next, xoxo.
