How to Create an Italian Aperitivo at Home

If you’ve been following my blog or other social platforms for a while, you’ll know that I was in London for the beginning half of this year. Whilst I was there, I was falling in love with all of the street style inspiration around me. Let me just tell you, if there’s one thing that you’ll realize that Brits do quite well – it’s outerwear. This likely has to do with the rain and the chill that seems to always be in the air, but no matter the reason, the outerwear you’ll see is absolutely fantastic.

If you’re like me, autumn is your favourite season to dress for – it’s the season for knitwear, sleek outerwear, faux fur and leather boots. The list could go on and on. Thinking back on when I was in London, there were a few pieces that I saw on the street quite often. As previously mentioned, there was a lot of inspiration from the fabulous outerwear at every turn. Leather trousers and roll-neck sweaters are two other examples. I took these and styled them with a pair of leather ankle boots, a black trench coat, and a handbag in similar hues. I love these bits paired together – I think it’s an incredibly chic look, and better yet, it’s super warm and cozy too.

I wanted to keep this look relatively casual, yet still elevated and smart. My favourite part about this outfit was the contrast between the edginess of the leather and the softness of the cozy knit. This was a look that I saw quite often on the streets of London, the only piece left to add is a trench coat to keep warm from the rain. The one that I’ve gone for in this look is a lightweight trench, perfect for early autumn. I love the contrast of the black colour with silver hardware, it pairs beautifully with the cream hue of the roll-neck whilst still working well paired with the leather trousers.

Keeping in mind the lifestyle of big cities, typically you’re on your feet quite a lot and nearly always on the go. When my day is like this, I tend to go for a shoe with a smaller, chunky heel – I find them to be extremely comfortable and easy to wear throughout the day. My go-to shoes as of late have been a pair of leather boots from TopShop. I’ve nearly worn these boots to death, and am definitely going to be investing in another pair before winter ends. I love the way that the leather trousers blend seamlessly into the boot as well. The finish of the leather is incredibly similar, which allows for an elongated look of the leg – who doesn’t love that?!

Now, I’m not one that likes to carry around a ton of things with me whilst whisking around the city during the week. Keeping that in mind, I went for a handbag to complete the look that was big enough to carry daily essentials, but not so large as to encourage carrying around bits and bobs that I know I don’t need with me. The handbag is from Nine West, and I absolutely adore the colour-block of the leather, especially because the cream tone is so similar to the colour of the knit. I wanted to go for a cross-body, because they’re easier to carry around on the go, as well as a chic option to add a bit more detail into a simple outfit pairing.
