A few months ago, I wrote in a post that I’ve had troubled skin for a while. Over the years I’ve struggled majorly with severe acne along with accompanying scarring and confidence hits because of it. My skincare journey, as many in the blogging world would call it, has been rather tumultuous – especially since it’s been hard to find products that I really like, and that react well with my skin.
Just over a year ago, I’d started getting chemical peels done from my esthetician. I’d notice just how good my skin would look after she worked her magic, and she’d tell me that the products she was using were excellent exfoliators. Salicylic acid is one of the most common ingredients used in skincare regimes for blemished skin, and my esthetician had told me that these peels were a ‘more concentrated’ form of these. Now – don’t quote me on this, because I am by no means an expert or an esthetician, but that was my understanding of the treatment.
After getting a series of about four peels done, I had noticed that my active breakouts were much less frequent and the scarring on my face started to appear fainter. However, the downside of the peels is that you can only get them every 6 weeks so that your skin has a chance to regenerate the outermost layer. My esthetician said that I could start to use at-home skin treatments about five days after I had the peel done, so as not to over-do it on my skin – which, after the peel gets quite sensitive. I was looking for something that would gently exfoliate without being too abrasive.

After trying out many exfoliating washes and scrubs, I decided to turn to face masks to see if I could find a product that would do what I was hoping it would – without over drying my face or causing new breakouts. After trying a few that were primarily clay based, I decided on one that I liked during the warmer months. My skin was a bit oilier, and because of this could handle a clay-based mask.
However, now that colder months have rolled around, I found myself once again searching for a mask that would exfoliate without over-drying my skin. When the weather gets colder, my skin tends to be drier and more prone to breakouts. My goal was to find a mask that was gel based, in order to get the benefits of an exfoliating clay mask whilst retaining the moisture that my skin had.
Shopping around the other day, I stumbled upon a product by VICHY Skincare. It came in a lovely jar and the masque had the prettiest rose tint (a nice bit of vanity appeal, if you ask me). The formula works with a dual-peel action, similar to the process of the peels that I needed to see my esthetician for. It contains AHA or fruit acids to remove the dead skin cells, and the gentle exfoliation comes from volcanic rock particles.
The Vichy Masque Peel Double Éclat is intended to brighten skin instantly, leaving a glowing complexion. Personally, I love the smell of the masque as well. It smells of apples and in my opinion, a bit like spring when all of the gardens are in bloom. This masque has also been tested for allergies as well as for sensitive skin – as my skin tends to be a bit more sensitive in the colder months, this was another selling point for me.
More Products from VICHY Skincare to Love
Fast forward a bit, I’ve been using this mask for about 2-3 weeks now. I’ve noticed a significant improvement with my skin, not only does it look brighter and smoother – but the times that I’ve had to reach for my overnight spot treatments have decreased dramatically. The Vichy Masque Peel Double Éclat is quickly becoming a permanent fixture in my weekly skin-pampering routine.
I’d love to know if you have any new skincare favourites from this month so far, or even any older goodies that are worth a mention. Have you tried anything from VICHY Skincare before? Let me know in the comments! Until next, xoxo.
