Three Ways to Style your Favourite LBD

The little black dress is a staple in many versions of the ideal wardrobe, and if you are like me the possibilities of styling an LBD are endless. I love simple throw-on pieces like the LBD because not only are they chic, but it takes little effort to style them beautifully. The one that I have chosen for this post is great for warmer weather. it has a bit of a shorter hemline with a lovely scalloped detail, and the lace overlay gives for a flirty and feminine vibe. I wanted to share with you three different ways that I have styled my little black dress that would work well in the warmer weather for a more casual setting, or perhaps maybe a relaxed date night or a chill with friends.

This first look is the most casual of the looks featured, and probably my favourite purely because I love any chance to wear a cozy sweater. I would most likely wear this look for brunch with friends or if I had some running about to do during the day. This look is perfect for the days where the weather may be sunny, but there is still a slight chill to the air. With the LBD, this beige sweater is absolutely perfect to provide that small bit of extra warmth. For my handbag, I decided upon an adorable little cross-body from Vera Pelle. I am just smitten with the smaller shape of the handbag and the smooth leather finish, and the warm brown accent leather is simply stunning; the perfect detail for a little everyday bag. Keeping with the two-tone leather look, I added an incredibly comfortable pair of loafers in a patent finish. The shoes also have the warm brown leather accent nearer to the sole. In all honesty, I’ve been going a bit mad for the two-tone leather trend lately. It adds a lovely little twist that isn’t incredibly bold, and it makes it easier to dip your feet in to the colour-blocked look that many still love. I like to call it the minimalist version of a maximalist trend.

This next look that I’ve put together is mostly inspired by my latest trip to London – there will be a separate post all about this trip – and by the amount of chic outerwear that one could see everywhere you looked. It’s no secret that it rains a lot in London. Seriously, if you leave your flat without some type of rain gear then chances are you’ll likely get a bit wet. My favourite way to combat the rainy weather was shared by many, and I’m sure this timelessly classic piece is no stranger to your wardrobe. The piece that I am referring to is the trench coat. The perfect trench is often lusted after by many, and finding the perfect fit may take a bit of time, but is quite worth the effort once it’s found. In this look, I paired my LBD with a light beige trench coat. I love the movement that this coat has, especially for spring, because it doesn’t have the same thick structure that my autumn trench coat would have. It is a very light layer, but also keeps you warm and dry if needed. I wanted this look to be primarily focused on the coat, and to maintain that focus, kept the accessories very minimal. I wore my absolute favourite shoe of the moment – if you follow my social media you’ll have seen these quite a lot – black leather sock-like boots from Topshop. I have been OBSESSED with these boots, often I wear them more than four times in a week. Along with the boots, I wore a pair black framed cat-eye sunnies to tie together the look from head to toe.

Lastly, I wanted to put together a look that was still casual but was also something that could be worn for date night. Over top of the LBD, I added a denim jacket in a lighter wash. The light wash adds the casualness that I was looking for, while still keeping the look light and feminine. The colour of the denim also works well with the daintiness of the dress‘ lace overlay. To take this look from daytime to date night, I wanted to add a bit of height and a bit of sexy with these stunning cognac two-strap heeled sandals. I love how these shoes lengthen the look of the leg and add an all-over polish to the outfit.
