Hello, my darlings! I don’t know about you all, but sometimes I tend to get in a bit of a rut when it comes to colours that I’m comfortable wearing. I don’t often venture from my monochrome colour palette, but I’ve made it a goal of mine for the upcoming months to embrace a bit more colour into my wardrobe. However, fashion goals aside, I came up with the idea of taking trending colours of the season and giving them each their own post for a new Colour Series. Often a Surprising Colour Addition to a Winter Palette
When thinking of winter fashion, most people tend to think of rich colour shades such as burgundy, forest green, blacks and charcoal greys. However, this year I’ve been noticing a trend of bringing lighter shades into the cooler months – and I’m living for it. Being a fan of wearing mostly black in the winter months, I thought that this would be a nice change to incorporate lighter nude, earthy shades into my winter wardrobe this season.
Shop Nude Favourites
Let’s start with the basics – choosing the right shade for your skin tone. Depending on the undertones of your skin, certain hues of the nude trend may not suit you – and that’s completely okay! It takes a bit of shopping around to find the shade that suits you best. Honestly, it’s taken years for me to find the shade that I like best with my hair colour and skin tone. My best tip for finding the shade that suits you is to go for one that matches the undertones of your skin tone and hair colour. For me, it’s a cooler undertone with a pinkish hue.
Wardrobe Staples and Investment Pieces
The best way, in my opinion, to start injecting a colour into your wardrobe is through closet staples and classic investment pieces (for example: a pair of shoes or a handbag that you’ll get lots of wear out of). Perhaps if you’re looking to invest in a new shoe, go for a nude bootie. They’re incredibly leg lengthening and are extremely versatile – typically I’ll pair mine with a classic black denim or a dress that requires a bit of added height.
One of my wardrobe staples that I like to test out new colours with is my outerwear – especially coats. I’ve always loved the look of a nude trench or a beige wool coat. They’re incredibly classic, and they’ll likely never go out of style. My favourite way to style these coats is to go for a basic colour palette underneath, take black for example. A rollneck top, denim, shoes and accessories in all black paired with a nude coat will instantly make the outerwear the focus of the look, bonus points for the added warmth too!
Monochrome Looks for Every Day
The lighter colour palette is easier to style for the everyday than one may think. Personally, whilst I love the look of an all-nude look, it tends to wash me out. To get around this, I decided on a pair of black jeans to anchor my look. In today’s look, I’ve gone for a cozy white turtleneck sweater underneath a faux fur vest for added texture. The texture of the vest adds visual interest to the look as well, which I absolutely adore. For accessories, I went for a lighter, cool-toned nude shade. The scarf is likely one of my favourite things about this look, it gives a bit more warmth and is a colour that can go with nearly anything. My boots are from Ann Taylor – I love the heel height that this pair has, perfect for elevating the everyday look.
