How to Style the Sweater Coat

So, you’ve been eyeing the key pieces that people are wearing on the street. You’ve seen the sweater coat and think, “I love the look, but I can only think of one way to style this. Are there ways to make this piece more versatile within my wardrobe?” The answer is YES.

Layering new pieces may just be one of my favourite parts of dressing in the colder months. I love the idea of playing with textures and weights of different pieces to make each look new and different. However – I will admit to re-wearing my favourite pairings way more than once.

One of the layers that I’ve been living in this season is the sweater coat. This particular one is from UNIQLO, and it wouldn’t be a far off statement in saying that this is one of my most worn pieces in my wardrobe at the moment. I’ve been loving the look of a long duster coat lately; this coat ticks the box of that trend whilst also being a cozy material that keeps you warm in the cold.

I’ve been styling this coat primarily over top of cozy knits for a bit of extra warmth. At the moment, I’ve been obsessing over the combination of mottled greys and creamy whites. This turtleneck sweater, in my opinion, is the perfect layer to wear underneath the sweater coat. Add a thermal underneath for extra snuggly warmth, and you’ll be toasty no matter how frigid the temperatures are outside.

To keep this look streamlined, I wore a pair of black distressed denim (my absolute favourite at the moment!) and my extremely loved pair of black leather boots. You’ll have seen these boots on the blog and my Instagram MANY times – but, I honestly think that they’re the perfect addition to elongate the leg and give you some serious style points. The heel is low enough to wear all day without hurting your feet, and chunkiness of the heel makes them quite comfortable.

Accessories can make or break any outfit. In this look, I chose to keep mine quite simple. A neutral scarf, a pair of black leather gloves and sunglasses worked well with this colour palette so as not to detract or distract from the coat. I love the streamlined effect that the complete look has – the best part about it, it can be worn for many seasons and still be in fashion.
