If you’ve been following Monochrome Minimalist for a while, you’ll know that The Hewing Hotel is one of my favourite places to go in Minneapolis – for food, for drinks, for the rooftop sauna and hot tub, for summer entertainment, you name it. If you’re looking for a good date night spot – this is it.
The Tullibee restaurant just inside is one of my go-to places for any occasion, special or otherwise. It’s a modern take on Scandinavian and Minnesotan classics, with an in-house butcher and food focused on hyper-local first. I love the farm-to-table philosophy that Tullibee prides itself on, especially as it promotes local vendors and freshwater fisherman to keep their Scandinavian roots at the forefront.
Winter at Tullibee
Because of the hyper-local nature of their food sourcing, of course the menu changes with the seasons at Tullibee. However, whilst I love their menu year-round, for me it’s the winter menu that really hits home.
Scandinavian food for me is one that I could eat forever and never tire of. I’m not really a fish-based cuisine person (never really have been), but friends and colleagues of mine that I’ve taken to the Hewing for a meal can definitely vouch for the impeccable quality. Instead, I love their local butcher’s specialties. We’re talking bison steak, beef shank, bison sirloin or New York strip – as well as the more veggie-based options like mushroom risotto, butternut squash lasagna, kale & date salad and their caraway potato rolls.
Step into Scandinavian Tradition right in Minneapolis
It’s no secret that there is a large Nordic influence in Minnesota. If you’re looking for something more than just good food, then this is a place to certainly consider. With simple, but purposeful décor and a Scandinavian inspiration – the Hewing Hotel is a hotspot for those craving simplistic elegance, both in the food and cocktails served at their rooftop and restaurant as well as the welcoming layout of their rooms. Whether you’re there for a date night, staycation, or midwestern get-away, it’s a stop that’s perfect for nearly every occasion. Filled to the brim with historical charm, incredible food and a bar that’s tough to top – you’ll find yourself wanting to come back again and again and again.
Have you ever been to the Tullibee restaurant at the Hewing? Have you ever had a little get-away? I’d love to know what you thought!
