It’s getting to be that time of year again – the temperatures start dropping, and we start to long for the cozy nights that autumn brings. But as things go, the temperatures do not drop right away, and that leaves us with the odd transition between seasons. You may not be quite sure what to buy in the shops, and not sure how to dress – as it may be brisk and chilly in the mornings, but extremely warm by midday.
I have a particularly hard time with this approaching end of summer/beginning of autumn weather. All I want to do is wear my cozy knits and coats for the season, yet if I did that, I would probably melt – as it is not quite cold enough for multiple layers yet. However, I’m substituting the heavy layers for one of my favourite autumn trends in a lighter material, which makes it perfect for the transition period.
Fluted sleeves made a huge appearance on the catwalks last year for the autumn/winter season, and this year was no different. The catwalks were full of statement sleeves, which includes the fluting that will be staying as a staple in my fall wardrobe, as well as a few more exciting trends that will be in upcoming posts. Now I love a good statement sleeve, but sometimes I wonder if the trend is wearable for the everyday outfit. I went on the hunt for a more toned-down version of the trend, and I ended up finding something that ticks all of the boxes.
Long sleeved shirt? Check. Does it come in black? Check. Fluted sleeves? Check. Affordable? Check.
I paired this fluted sleeve top with a pair of lighter-wash denim with frayed hems. I love the contrast between the black and the light blue, it makes for added visual interest to the look – especially with the statement hemline of the jeans. For accessories, I wanted to keep things minimal and simplistic. I kept to the colour of the top, adding a pair of heeled sandals in a black suede and a black leather belt. This look is perfect for a brunch with the girls or even a casual evening out. If you want to make this look more daytime appropriate, all you have to do is switch out the heels for a comfortable yet chic pair of loafers.
What trends are you looking forward to this season? Are you as excited for the return of the flute-sleeve trend as I am? Let me know in the comments! Until next, xoxo.
